General Facts About Sea Turtles

Regularly sea turtles such as the green sea turtles live in warm water, although there are other specific areas located around the world where you might find them. The female sea turtles emerge at night, and for up to two hours on the beach they lay their eggs. In the end the sea turtle will have produced seven clutches of eggs. The map below shows major nesting sites:

Sea Turtles are usually vegetarians. Mostly, they consume algae and sea grasses. They do not have teeth, but have ?beaks?, which suit their diet. But, this is not a site for just facts on sea turtles. We put this site on the net to inform you that these wonderful creatures exist and need your help.

Why Are Sea Turtles Endangered?

Our human activities are the threat to the sea turtles. The major cause of their deaths around the world is shrimp trawling when they get caught in the nets. Why does this mass destruction continue? With our reckless and careless actions the possibility of extinction for the sea turtles is right in front of our faces.

How can you help?

You are most likely thinking there is nothing you can do to help, well there is. If you go to the Internet sight http://www.turtles.org/helping.htm, there are many possibilities for helping the sea turtles. They have adoptions, donations, volunteer work, e-mailing and other options that could make a world of difference.

Conclusion

If you go to the site written above, not only are you helping us (the concerned creators of this web page) and the sea turtles, you would be helping every single species that is connected to the sea turtles through the ecosystem chain. The extinction of the sea turtles would also have that connected affect, which is much like a rock thrown in a pond. When the rock is dropped not only does it affect the water in the exact place it landed, it causes rings of water to circle out affecting a huge portion of the pond. Therefore if we let the sea turtles become extinct, we will have lost more than the stunning sea turtles. So if every person who visited this site were to go to http://www.turtles.org/helping.htm and donate a few dollars, or do a few hours of volunteer work, we could save the sea turtles and prevent the negative affect of dropping the rock and letting our actions kill the sea turtles to the point of extinction.

Thank you.
